How It Works
SafePRO® Optical Bird Repellent Gel uses four sensory deterrents—visual, smell, touch and taste—to change how birds perceive the treated area. The location no longer feels like a safe or comfortable place to roost, encouraging birds to leave and reducing repeat visits.
Visual Deterrent: The gel reflects ultraviolet (UV) light that is visible to birds, making the treated area appear as if it contains flames or smoke. As birds generally avoid areas that appear potentially dangerous, this can discourage them from approaching or landing.
Smell Deterrent: The citronella and peppermint essential oils in the gel have a relatively mild scent for humans but are more noticeable to birds. The scent interferes with their recognition of familiar roosting areas and reduces their desire to remain there.
Touch Deterrent: The surface of the gel is sticky. When birds approach or attempt to land, the unpleasant sensation discourages them from staying on the treated surface.
Taste Deterrent: If a bird comes into contact with or pecks at the gel, its taste can create an unpleasant sensation. Combined with the visual, smell and touch deterrents, this gradually reduces the bird’s reliance on the treated location.
Application Guide
1. Observe and Identify the Problem Areas: Observe where birds regularly land, roost, nest or leave droppings. Identify the specific bird hot spots that require treatment.
2. Clean and Disinfect Thoroughly: Before installation, use a natural bird-dropping cleaner to clean and disinfect the area. Remove droppings, feathers, dust, grease and other contaminants to eliminate residual odours and bacteria.
3. Wear Appropriate Protection: Check that the installation area is stable and assess whether a ladder, mobile elevating work platform or other safety equipment is required. Wear gloves and protective eyewear when handling the gel dishes and cleaning bird droppings.
4. Install the Gel Dishes: Open the gel dish and place it on the surface where birds actually land or roost. Arrange the dishes according to the area requiring treatment and the recommended spacing.If necessary, secure the dishes with waterproof tape, adhesive or cable ties.
5. Inspect Regularly: After installation, inspect the product regularly. Clean bird droppings from the surrounding area when necessary, and replenish or replace the product as required.

Installing the gel in areas that birds do not come into contact with will generally not provide the desired results.
Q: Can the gel be installed on vertical walls?
Answer: In general, SafePRO® Optical Bird Repellent Gel hould be installed on horizontal or sloping surfaces where birds can stand. Unnecessary installation on vertical walls is not recommended.
For swallows, woodpeckers or unusual building structures, the site and bird activity pattern should be assessed by a professional.
Q: Can the gel be installed beside a bird nest?
Answer: Do not install the gel beside an active nest containing eggs or young birds.
Under Hong Kong’s Wild Animals Protection Ordinance (Cap. 170), wild birds, nests and eggs are protected. It is illegal to intentionally disturb, remove or damage a bird nest or bird eggs.
Q: Will the gel stop working after rain?
Answer: SafePRO® Optical Bird Repellent Gel has good adhesion, and its oil-based formulation is designed to remain stable in wind, rain, snow and high temperatures.
