Fun Facts for Consuming Honey - Q&A
Should bee honey be scooped up with a metal spoon?
A1: Apart from being sweet, there is also slight sourness for honey. It is mildly acidic, which could induce reaction between the metal and the honey, causing it to be spoiled. The metal could be corroded as well. Therefore, it is best to use glass, wooden or plastic containers and kitchenware to handle bee honey.
What food cannot be consumed with honey?
A2: Please beware that mixing up honey with tofu could cause diarrhea. There are enzymes in bee honey that will react with minerals and proteins in the tofu, which could cause digestive problems.
Should bee honey be stored in a fridge?
A3: Honey was like salt in the ancient times, it is a natural anti-oxidant. Keep the lid shut tightly, avoiding storing in warm places. and it is good to go for a long time. No refrigerators needed. If the honey is not pure, maybe mixed with water or other contaminants, the enzymes in bee honey could be activated. The fermentation process will cause the honey becoming sour and spoiled.
How to fix crystallized bee honey?
Here are two of the most common methods!
- Place the honey bottle (non-plastic) into a rice cooker, but do not pour water inside the pot. Keep it in "keep warm" mode once powered up, and close the lid. Cover the lid with a tower to keep the heat and steam inside. The honey should be liquidized again after 3-6 hours (depends on the type and how crystallized is the honey).
- Place the honey inside water, make sure the water level is about the same as the liquid level inside the honey bottle. Heat up the water to about 50-60℃ for a few hours.
Can bee honey be mixed with warm water?
Pure bee honey is a kind of natural nutrition supplement. Therefore, cold water is recommended to keep all the nutrients. It also helps keeping the taste. Water being too hot, could damage the nutrients in the honey. But if you are making a honey drink during winter, it is recommended to be mixed with water no warmer than 50℃.
